So we went to the zoo for the N-th time

This has got to be one of the most peculiar child-caring arrangment with the Son. To cut the long story short, we were 'conned' to go to the Zoo - ON OUR OWN - Just the two of us.

But seeing how enthusiastic the son was, I managed to convince every skin cell in my body that the sweltering heat will be worth it. (Mental note: Have to double up the skincare dosage when I go back!)

Jayden is determined to cover every nook and corner of the zoo. He made sure we visited all the animals that he could recognize on the map.

So being a happy kid that day also meant photo perfect for me. *snap snap snap*

To be honest, this is Jayden's first official time in the waterplay. For those who have been to the Zoo with him before would know that the most he would do is get his knees wet. Nothing/nobody touches the hair.

So I'm actually glad that, at the age of 4, he had finally overcome his phobia of water splashing over his head and just be a normal kid and have lots of fun! Next, will be to make him sit on the slide.

We started off the day with me cursing under the sun. But by the end of the day, with the son sleeping peacefully in the car after all the fun, it's evident that spending some family time is immeasurable. :)

On a rather random note, here's wishing everyone a Happy Dragon year in 2012 in abundance of health, wealth and happiness!

Bye bye 2011

So 2011 came and gone. It whizzed by so fast that I didn't have the time to blog about what had happened for the past 2 months. I am also ashamed to look at the number of posts I had done in 2011 as compared to 2010.

We had alot of "First time" experiences as well so let's re-cap.

Thanks to Adrian, we got a night stay at the renowned MBS. Of course, we had to take a dip at the "must-go" Sky pool regardless of how cold the water was at 8am in the morning! Like tourists, we also walked around the mall for the first time. I know, very suaku.

We celebrated Rene's birthday together with a new addition to the group - baby Mabel! Finally Jayden gets a playmate. Welcome to the world baby Mabel!

And I finally get to go to Universal Studios for the first time! Another suaku moment. All thanks to our company team building event - imagine tonnes of fun at ZERO cost! Sweet.

And for the first time, I muster enough courage to take up the challenge to sit on ALL THE RIDES. Talk about good team spirit. I have no idea where I managed to find the guts to even convince myself to walk up the stairs to The Cylone. But I did and our team won the "Amazing Race"! Prize is free meal ticket to ANY restaurants in Singapore! :D I am thinking Cut, Les Amis, Kunio! Anything to bring a smile to my stomach!

For the past 3 years, it has almost become a ritual to host the X'mas party at our place. This year, we got to make merry at our friends' new houses instead. And for the first time in 5 years at our place, we actually did not bring the X'mas tree out. Dylan is very pleased with the arrangements as it saved up alot of his house-keeping. -_-

First stop, the Tan's abode. Lots of yum-meh food painstakingly cooked by chef Rachel, pressies and alot of blues in the house! A very heartwarming event indeed. Hopefully, we keep this tradition going on for years...

And my two boys opening up their pressies on X'mas day itself. I have intentionally hidden my self-bought gift(s). Tsk tsk. Note the plural form. All I can say is, I'm very satisfied with the purchases. :)

2nd round of merry making at Bon and Trav's new place. Another round of feasting and gift exchanges. I am almost certain that dieting should be shelved up in the month of December.

And finally, we wrapped up the year counting down at the 25th floor with an excellent view of the fireworks! How awesome is that! :D Another "First", this is Jayden's first time counting down with us since the boy is old enough to stay up till 12.

A walk down memory lane in 2011: -

  • Holiday trips - Went HCM, Europe, Hong Kong and Club Med Bali!

  • Baby boom - 5 friends popped - 3 boys and 2 girls!

  • Career - Got double promotion with an excellent remuneration (stayed on the current job for > 3 years. Broke my record) and Dylan changed to a better job

  • Health - Finally got the clean bill after a year of doubts

  • Family - Spent a staycation with my family on Jayden's 4th birthday

  • Indulgence - Spent a 5 figure sum in Europe (something which I would never EVER do), made my 2nd timepiece investment in Aug - a whopping $7.4 grand (after severely influenced by Dylan), bought 2 pairs of extravagant shoes at $400+ each (after laughing at Cel that spending that kind of money on shoes is like stepping on your money. Note to oneself: Never laugh at a friend again). I have come to realize that this kind of indulgence (within my limits) is a necessity in "Living life to the fullest" (even if you don't agree to my methodology)

I am exceptionally glad that 2011 had been fulfilling with so many great things going on. What used to be an uncertainty in my career is finally taking flight, everyone's healthy (minus Dylan's slipped disc) and we visted so many new places in a year.

I hope in the year 2012,

  • Finding a new home - After 5 years in our nest, it is time to move to greener pastures, hopefully a place near Jayden's prospective primary school.

  • More holiday trips - Booked BKK in Feb, going on girls trip to Taiwan in Mar, HK Disneyland in July and hopefully States in Dec!

  • Career - Hope to move on to new roles to move up the ladder. Stay in the same company for the next 2 years. Likewise for Dylan for a smooth sailing career.

  • Health - Everyone to be in the pink

  • Family - Hopefully Jayden to stay in the new school for the next 2 years. Be patient and kind to family members.

  • Bonding - Despite everyone having their own family now, make a point to stay in contact and never stop our traditional celebrations - birthdays, anniversaries, festivals.

  • Indulgence - I am still trying to keep the wallet tight but having bought 10 pieces of clothes for Chinese New Year is not a good sign.

And certainly, to live life to the fullest!

Reunion dinners used to have a special meaning for me. It bears the definition of bonding, family get togethers and savouring delectable food for 15 hard days. It is also miracle that I can still fit in my pants.

Having to rush through 2 reunions in a night for the past 4 years have begun to wear me out. I have no idea why either side refused or even compromise to hold it on seperate days. The chore of having to gobble down food in 30 mins and then drive at lightning speed to the next destination, only to suffer another round of naggings is simply a killjoy.

Anyhow, despite being so resentful and whiney, I know I should still be thankful that my loved ones are happy and healthy. Enough of complaints, here are the photos.

I didn't win any $$$ during gamble sessions but I hope that doesn't translates to my fortune going down the drain this year. (Mental note: Cannot spend too much. Haha)

Ushering another new year

I didn't mean to have this late post. But I was waiting for *ahem* some overdued photos which is still overdued because someone is busy sipping red wine on the other side of the globe. *looks at C's direction sternly*

Anyhow, despite our ever-increasing hectic schedule, that never stopped us from having our ritual New Year dinner.

This year, C picked a quaint gem spot somewhere on the west. The ambience was good, food came in decent portions, topped up with a nice bottle of wine - simply divine. It is little moments like these that makes me appreciate my life is pampered. :) Thanks for the great food & company!

Our 5th New Year Celebration

I was trying to dig out last year new year dinner posts and I came across my 2010 resolutions.

  1. 1 long holiday, probably USA or Japan & 1 short holiday, hopefully to bring Jayden along to Hong Kong [Went to Club Med Bali with my parents and had many other short trips]

  2. Be more patient to Jayden [Still trying to attain zen]

  3. Celebrating my 30th birthday overseas with my gfs [Celebrated at Festive hotel instead]

  4. Going diving again [Unfortunately, I'm not sure when this will ever happen :( ]

  5. Getting my dream bag - Chanel 2.55 Classic Jumbo (when can I own you!) [Hopefully in my upcoming trip!!! Got a Balenciaga to make up for the 'loss']

  6. Staying healthy - swimming and hitting the gym every week [This has dwindled to once a month affair]

  7. Going health screenings yearly - have to plan one for Dylan soon [Did mine, not so good. Still trying to psycho the man to do it]

  8. Start saving to plan for house shifting in 2 years time [Savings will start after Europe trip]

  9. Stay on my current job at least for > 2 years (I job hop every 2 years) [I don't know if I should be proud of this but I have achieved it]

  10. Further studies to enhance my portfolio and of course better pay to fulfil Pt 8 [Not happening yet]

I decided not to have any resolutions for 2011 although there will be some points above that will be on repetitive mode - Health, savings and family. My motto is simple - Keep moving forward and enjoy life to the fullest.

So with that, I leave some photos of the past. I think we haven't aged much! :p

2009 @ Conrad

2008 @ Kushinbo & Flyer

2007 @ Hanabi

2006 - @ The Line with no kids!

Cheers to another great year!!! Now where should we go?

Reflecting 2010

I know 2010 is very much long and gone but I thought I should pen down some moments to remind myself that I'm blessed to have lived another year smoothly.

On the son, one would be when he started his pre-school at TRBK. I think he really enjoyed learning playing in this school albeit a short 1 year.

On some milestones (if you call it that way) achievements, We managed to 1) wean Jayden from the pacifier when he was only 2, 2) wean off the diaper at night and lastly getting him to poo in the potty. Of course, that translates to alot of savings $$$ :D

Come April, Dylan switched to a new job after serving for 5 years in his ex company. It was a pretty neat pay jump which complimented to a better lifestyle for us. :)

Then in May, I managed to go on a holiday trip with my parents. Something I've been wanting to do, also serves up as a memory for Jayden with his maternal grandparents.

Surely, how can one forget how I bade farewell to being 20s. :(

Our first NDP experience as a family with the nation. Jayden has started to learn to say the pledge in both languages and also singing the national anthem in school. It would have been more apt if we go this year. :)

This also happens to be the year our boy turned 3 while his mother turned 30. I wished I had one less zero though. We also attended his 1st pre-school graduation. I almost cried when I saw my shy boy performed in front of 200 people.

I must say 2010 had been an awesome 365 days although we did have a few hiccups - one with me having a flat tyre on an expressway and also our unfortunate encounter to hunt for another school for Jayden. The latter turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I now no longer have to worry about having no one to take care of my son or pull last minute surprises.

So 2010 was SMASHING. I am certainly embracing for a bountiful 2011 too! What's up? My treat to Dylan's birthday trip to Ho Chi Minh in Feb and our (or rather mine) long awaited trip to Europe in March!!!

Is it over yet?

X'mas is certainly over and done with. But the X'mas tree remains in the corner of our living room - untouched. Of course, the kid and presents not included.

We are still hoping for a special vaccum to compact the humongous tree into a tiny tupperware and store it until next X'mas.

Just the other day, we saw a shrink-wrapped X'mas tree at a jewellery outlet, ready to be packed into storage. Now, who said we were the only lazy ones?

Celebrated the New Year's eve at the Marina Float with my usual gang. This is the 5th consecutive year that we do this together - Dinner and then countdown with the Fireworks. I must admit that the mini concert at the Float was flat boring. I wished we could have done more with hanging around a cafe, sipping on a nice glass of champange and yabbering away. Besides, we hardly get to have hearty chats nowadays. Nonetheless, the company was great. And I'm still hoping for a new companion in the group for Jayden. Perhaps this year? :)

Fast forward to 2nd Jan. We met Celeste & family for the ritual new year dinner. This time, it's our 4th new year spent together. Dylan was raving alot on the seafood & oysters he heard and very much wanted to try out. And so, we conned the other unknowing family to Conrad's Oscars and had a great time feasting. You have no idea how much fat burning exercises Celeste and I sweated just to attend this food binging 'event'. No photos available as I'm still waiting for the retun of my SD card. Yoohoo? Cel, you hear me?

Again, 2009 whizzed passed by like a breeze. One moment, I was reminiscing on the birth of my son, the next moment, I am worrying about Jayden adapting to his new pre school. And not to mention planning the next house shift cautiously as that would determine his elementary school in future! How scary can Parenthood gets?!

** NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS **

Two weeks into 2010 and I didn't even had the time to blog about my new year resolutions! I traced back how we spent the last days of 2008 and what my 2009 resolutions were. And surprisingly, I didn't set any goals for myself in 2009. It was just purely time spent with good friends, family and reflection on how much my boy has grown in a year. :)

A walk-thru on what was done in 2009... ...
Jan - Staycation at The Amara Sentosa with Dylan & Jayden
Feb - CNY, Daddy's birthday & Jayden started his 1st class at Grace Kids
Mar - Jayden managed to sleep independantly in his own room
Apr - Jayden contracted chicken pox at 18 months
May - Trip to Hokkaido Japan, also the time when Jayden refuses to sleep on his own again
Jun - Rested the whole month and did NOTHING
Jul - Mummy's birthday! Attended a Jakarta wedding
Aug - Jayden goes to the Zoo
Sep - Jayden starts going to playgroup
Oct - Jayden turns terrible two! Birthday retreat to Club Med, Bintan
Nov - Group trip to Phuket with the gang (Bon, Adrian, Bryan), bought my 2nd bag - Miu Miu
Dec - X'mas gathering with our friends and counting down to the next year

So what will be my 2010 resolutions?

  1. 1 long holiday, probably USA or Japan & 1 short holiday, hopefully to bring Jayden along to Hong Kong
  2. Be more patient to Jayden
  3. Celebrating my 30th birthday overseas with my gfs
  4. Going diving again
  5. Getting my dream bag - Chanel 2.55 Classic Jumbo (when can I own you!)
  6. Staying healthy - swimming and hitting the gym every week
  7. Going health screenings yearly - have to plan one for Dylan soon
  8. Start saving to plan for house shifting in 2 years time
  9. Stay on my current job at least for > 2 years (I job hop every 2 years)
  10. Further studies to enhance my portfolio and of course better pay to fulfil Pt 8
  11. 10 resolutions are hard enough to keep so that's enough

And lastly, HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
