Lazy Sunday affairs

Every time I re-visited brunch, my love for eggs are rekindled. Forget about sunny side up, half-boiled or scrambled. Eggs benedict brings you to another level. Top it up with smoked salmon and you're swooned over.

Ever since C decided to keep Ziv away from the boring Shicida classes, we have more opportunity to explore places around that serves a good pack of brunch. Some are even worth the return visits. One of them would be Riders Cafe.

We love the simple concept of having horses around to entertain the kids. And although they have recently changed their menu, their warm toast and scones still saved the day.

** BIRTHDAY BRUNCH @ TANGLIN TREE **

This year, we decided to dish away holding a mega celebration for J. There will only be seperate sessions with our family and closer friends who saw J growing up.

One of them would naturally be his 3 month older kor kor Ziv. So what better way to celebrate than to have it over a brunch session.

This time, venue was at Tanglin Tree. It had a mini playground and a sand pit. What perfect way to keep the kids busy while we sip on our latte serenading the cool breeze and pristine blue sky.

Thanks to C and family for getting the strawberry cheesecake. The adults were so stuff with brunch that we only had a few mouthfuls of the cake. The kids however, always have stomach to finish up a piece of yummy cake.

First celebration down and perhaps a few more mini sessions to go! In less than 2.5 weeks, my kid is turning 3 and hopefully TT (Terrible Twos) would also be gone by then?!?

FOOD

is the only activity we do these days... ...

And I am embarassed to confess that I have never tasted nor knew its existence until recently. How can one miss out on benedicts for almost half her life?!? It is the awesomest thing I have ever tasted! No more sunny side up for me from now.

So we finally went to Rider's Cafe after weeks of postponing and the lack of space - it was always FULL HOUSE!

It was a pity that Dewi and family had to pull out due to family commitments. Jayden enjoyed the food whilst watching the horse galloping around. Yes, the place was just beside a stable! Didn't manage to take photos of the horses as it was raining.

Labour Day Fiesta 1

Well, the name says it all. Labour Day is meant to be a day when everyone should not be working. However, this year, Labour Day falls unconventionally on a Saturday, which doesn't really benefit the office hours people aka us.

With the recommendation from Rach, we wanted to check out the Riders Cafe. But to our dismay, the place is fully booked until Sunday 3pm (still have specific time wor!) Everyone is hungry on a Labour's Day.

Unwavered, I went online and check out the possible places for brunch. I will not succumb to Mac-boring-Donalds!

And so, we decided to go to Singapore Polo Club - a substitute from Riders Cafe and Jayden could still get to see the horses. To our delight, the place was practically empty and thus no reservations were required. Well, how can breakfast food go so wrong right?

Jayden was pretty apprehensive when he was told that we were going to see horses. We have no idea how the boy related them to dinosaurs and thought horses will eat him up. We were even more perplexed at how he related himself to a squirrel. (Note to self: No more Ice Age cartoons for the son. Barney is safer)

As expected, the boy enjoyed the horse watching. The food, on the contrary, was a total let-down. I ordered banana pancakes with berries and fruit compote. The name sounded so tantalizing but when served, it was only ONE pancake to share with the son, with no berries and dried compote that looked expired. Food bad, service horrible. It is little wonder why the place is empty.

We were later informed that the restaurant will be closed to the public from July onwards. With that kind of unappetizing food and service, we were more than happy to scratch the place from our brunch list.

We MUST check out Riders Cafe soon.

It's been a while...

... since I have some decent activities for the boy. Jayden is getting so active these days that I would rather spend the undisturbed time napping with him or simply just watching the tube.

Apparently, Good Friday happened to be the only long weekend left for the rest of 2010 (at least I heard), so time is precious. We need to get the son out of the house, before he tells his friends that his parents are boring people.

It was initially planned to be a JB-cum-seafood on Thursday evening. However, local report warned us not to get ourselves stucked in the crazy jam at customs. So the plan was scrapped. Unwavered, we decided to meet for Brunch instead the following day.

This time the Hengs and the Yips tried somewhere else - Hatched, quite akin to Easter Friday.

Boys looking at the kids menu

Yum yum yum. Too hungry to take more photos

We were pretty disappointed when the restaurant failed to serve the animal pancakes for the boys. Reason being they were too busy to 'shape' the animals on the pancake. It is quite irrelevant - then don't put it on the menu right?

Nonetheless, the boys had some great time together. I bought some Easter chocolates from Candy Empire in the spirit of Easter Day. Jayden painted an Easter egg at school but the clumsy boy broke it on the way home before he could show it to me. :(

And it was back home for the son to take his ritual nap. But the fun didn't end. The following day, Cel and I decided to bring the boys for a swim to get away from the heat!

It was Mac brekkie in the morning and off to the pool to splish splash!

Jayden and Ziv had so much fun. They literally 'swam' two laps with the help of the float of course. And Jayden managed to kick his way through most of it - so proud of him! :)

Boys in their 'penguin' suit

The day lasted pretty well until the boys started to snatch toys and got violent with each other. Cel and I just shook our heads. We knew it was time to seperate them aka naptime.

Indeed, Jayden had a long deep slumber. Must be all the kicking and fighting. Good workout actually.

And there goes the long weekend... Can't wait for the trip to Bali in May!

BRUNCH

Is a word I seldom use ever since we had a kid that wakes up earlier than your alarm clock.

But Cel & family has inspired me to do that more often. Of course, having brunch with good company is certainly more encouraging.

Cel suggested having brunch at this quaint place near Phoenix Park - Spruce over the weekend. Having our kids waking up at different hours always makes it tough to arrange a good timing. But nonetheless, Cel and I always make efforts to make every meetup possible. Anyway, we only need to pack the diaper bag and demand our slave driver to get us there pronto! We have since ditched the nightmare idea of single-handedly driving our kids around in the car.

The place was great, food was delectable. Loved the german sausages and banana pancakes!

And who can miss placing the two boys together.

Of course, we really didn't starve the boys. They had alot of pancakes and sausages. Whatever one eats, the other must follow as well. Monkey see, monkey do.

I couldn't help digging out the past photos of the boys sitting side-by-side. Jayden seemed more sociable back then - or rather prefer to irritate Ziv.
