Relief

I conclude that this is one of the hardest milestone for Jayden. Sleeping through the night, weaning off the pacifier, sleeping in his own room, being diaper free at night - all these seemed mediocre to having to tell the son that poo-ing while standing up in his diaper is not the proper way for bowel movement.

There were times where the boy would rather just constipate throughout the weekend or go red in the face when I refused to give him the diaper thinking that he would have no choice but to do his dump at the potty. It was 3 months ago when Jayden went diaper free even at night.

I am not sure if it was peer pressure or education from school. One fine day, when the son mentioned he needed to poo, I gingerly asked if we could try the potty - and he AGREED!

Of course, there is a smelly price to pay. I had to sit through the entire session, holding his hands and even pretended I was poo-ing TOGETHER with him. Kids just don't want to feel left out I guess.

But it was all worth it. Jayden has successfully managed to poo in the potty without STANDING UP and IN DIAPER! And after a few sessions with him, Jayden has now requested for me to stand outside the toilet with doors closed while I wait for him to finish his business, knowing that I can't stand the stench. Hehe.

So yes, it is a HUGE relief for me to annouce that my boy is finally DIAPER FREE! WOOHOO! More savings!

What better way to reward the son than ice-cream!

10

... ... TEN is the number of days, Jayden has been off the pacifier and hanky. This time, it went pretty smoothly as he probably understood that he was getting too old for it. No fuss, no whining. I am very proud of my boy.

Today is the 1st day he is at the in-law's place. That will determine if Jayden has truely weaned off.

I am crossing my fingers AND TOES.

You go potty, you get a sweet

I have no idea when it started.

Initially, it never crossed my mind to start potty train Jayden as I left the dirty task to his school to manage.

However, Jayden has been showing signs of waiting to go to the toilet. And so, we took out the potty over the weekend and left it in our bath room, hoping for a miracle to happen.

We have randomly told Jayden before that if he needed to pee pee or poo poo, he needs to use the potty (although back then, we didn't even have a potty in the house). Last Sunday, Jayden initiated that he needed to poo poo and proceeded to the potty. And so he sat, and sat, and sat. But nothing came out. Then he asked if he could take off his diapers and try again. And he sat, and sat, and sat again. Still zilch.

I don't know what sweet mother of science struck me, I suggested to Jayden confidently that if he can poo poo in his potty, he will get a sweet.

A few minutes later, Jayden came running to me, diaper-less, screaming "Mummy! Mummy! Sweet! Sweet!" I proceeded to the potty, and found a tiny dropping. REJOICE! My son has finally poo-ed in the potty!

And because parents are supposed to keep promises to their kid, Jayden got himself a sweet.

Shortly after, Jayden managed to squeeze a second tiny dropping and requested for another sweet. So scheming!!!

Later in the night, our son also managed to pee for the first time in the potty.

Are we looking forward to diaper-free days too soon?

Cold turkey

He demonstrates in the most dramatic ways whenever it's out of his sight - calling his rescue team aka ah ma and ah gong, climbing up onto the table rummaging my bag, pleading to us in a quivering tone as if like an addict.

Jayden used to only need the pacifier for bed time until recently he has been harrassing us every single minute. Teething problems or just pure habit?

Whatever it is, I'm sick of attending to a bawling kid whenever he's told that Mummy has forgotton to bring his favourite 'chewing gum' out. There are so many things to prepare - diaper bag, food, clothes, mummy's stuff. And the pacifier just don't happen to be in mummy's poor memory.

Today is the 4th day Jayden is on cold turkey. I really hope he is totally weaned off. Thereafter, it's the darn hankie.
